"Never be within doors when you can rightly be without."
-Charlotte Mason

We strive to inspire wonder, curiosity and connection with the natural world through playful exploration and meaningful community.

Our Story

Hi! I'm Chelsea. This is my family.

Discovery Wilderness School began as a dream in my heart in 2017. I was looking for real, meaningful relationships for myself and my girls, deeply rooted in nature. In 2018, we launched our small nature-program, and we've  been learning and growing in wonderful ways since then. Its been such a magical experience! I'm so glad you're here.

Welcome!

Wilderness Courses

Processing wild edibles, wood working, building and cooking over the fire, handcrafting, canoeing, shelter building - our classes encourage connection to the natural world and one another.

Location

Temporary

7255 Pine Island Dr NE, Comstock Park, MI 49321

NEW SPACE: For the 2025-2026 School Year, we are renting private, wooded property. We spent summer 2025 working hard to install trail systems and beautiful outdoor classrooms to prepare for a wonderful school year coming up!

In case of inclement weather, we have the option to continue our nature studies indoors to process wild edibles, work on hand craft activities, nature journal, and play sensory awareness games.

 Land Acknowledgment

Discovery Wilderness School acknowledges that we gather on the ancestral home of the Anishinaabe Three Fires Confederacy: the Ojibwa, Ottawa, and Potawatomi Nations. We are grateful for the ways these Peoples have cared for the land and honored it across generations. Their teachings continue to guide us, and we strive to follow their example by building meaningful relationships with the natural world, nurturing our community, and engaging in ongoing learning and care for this place.
